Gear
“The best camera is the one you have with you.”
Quote attributed to a lot of people
Gear choice is a vexed topic: on the one hand, gear doesn’t equal creativity; nor does better equipment make a better film. On the other hand, you do need to do the job and you often need to meet certain requirements.
Gear is also a personal choice, a choice formed from years of experience and with particular projects in mind. My gear is based on versatility and agility: it is compact and flexible, yet detailed and stunning.
I have designed my kit after many years travelling the world, wandering through unknown airports and rolling around in the back of 4WDs (me and the gear!); setting up in field hospitals and remote villages, and filming interviews and PTCs from board rooms to universities.
My gear is designed for documentaries, ENG/EFP, and corporate videos; for getting in and out quickly, for capturing pristine audio, and not drawing too much attention to myself. It’s designed for getting the shot in full broadcast glory; and it’s designed for getting the essential part of any film: the story.
